GLORIOUS 20: JOURNEY OF THE CHENNAI CORPORATION COMMUNITY COLLEGE
The Chennai Corporation Community College was started in the year 1999 as a joint initiative of Rotary Club of Madras East with Greater Chennai Corporation and Foundation for Vocational Training to further vocational & employment opportunities for underprivileged students.
On 22nd Jan 2020 , the Community college held its 20th Convocation Ceremony for the Batch of 2019 students. This also marked 20 glorious years of running of The Community College. The function was presided over by Ms. Grace Pachuau, Deputy Commissioner Education Greater Chennai Corporation, Mr. T. President of RCME R Gopalakrishnan, Dr. K. Mahesh Kumar Medical Adminstrator Kauvery Hospital , Education Officer R. Bharathidasan (GCC), AEO Ms. Padmapriya (GCC) & several fellow Rotarians.
Deputy Commissioner Education Greater Chennai Corporation, Ms. Grace Pachuau was taken for a walkthrough around the facility by Rtn PE Ram. He talked about the genesis of the project in 1999 & how over the years it has evolved into one of the most successful & self-sustained venture involving Public-Private Partnership
The Deputy Commissioner in her address to the students appreciated Rotary club of Madras East, Kauvery Hospital and Winners Bakery for their efforts in successfully imparting education as well as livelihood focused vocational training for underprivileged students since 1999 for 20 years now. She said it will help to channelize youth towards meaningful employment and livelihood opportunities beyond academics. She also said that she would encourage corporation schools to share information about the vocational training programs offered at the centre so that more children can benefit from it. corporation community college.
The students in their address deeply appreciated the commitment of the faculty trainers at the Community College. The Director Vocational Services, Rtn Nagalakshmi N Vijaykumar, placed her appreciation of all the committee members & office bearers of the earlier years & acknowledged the effort through the years of Community College team – Ms Radha , Mr. Karthik, Mr. Pratap, Mr. Nawaz. Ms. Nirmala & the administrator Ms. Varalakshmi.
Till date over 500+students have passed out of Chennai Corporation Community College (including 117 Paramedical Diploma students from 2015). The paramedical program at the community college is run under the aegis of Indian Medical Association & Kauvery Hospital. This college has produced 19 State Rank students in Paramedical Diploma since 2015. In 2019 , 3 students – N. Priyankaa, M. Kokila & N. Jeevitha – have secured State First & Second Rank in their respective Paramedical courses.
The Community College offers courses in Spoken English , Computer Software Course & Tally . It also runs a separate 1 year Paramedical Diploma Course in 5 streams in Association with Indian Medical Association (IMA) with practical in-hospital training.
The above courses are offered as 1 year programs. Course Applications open in May 2020 & close in June 2020. The course is offered free. 10th pass students with less than 25 years of age can apply. The Community college also offers a 6 month certificate program in Baking & Chinese Cooking . The in-house practical training is offered at the popular Winners’ Bakery in Alwarpet.
