Rotary Club of Madras East (RCME) meets on Wednesdays at 6.30 p.m. at Hotel Crowne Plaza, Chennai. We have 183  active members as on 30 June 2022.

Qualitative involvement, high standard of speakers and healthy attendance are the main ingredients of our weekly meetings. Family participation is another aspect that stands predominant in our activities.

History of RCME

Rotary Club of Madras East (RCME) was inaugurated on 3rd April 1985, chartered on 21st May 1985 and Charter Presented on 26th June 1985 with charter no. 22791. Curently it is part of Rotary District No. 3232 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

The Rotary principles and values of this club are enviably high. The founding fathers gave it the character it retains even today; at the same time strongly believing in evolving with passing time, 37 years down the road, you see a vibrant and happening club, young at heart and contemporary in thought.

The club believes in active engagement of women in Rotary, not only as Rotarians but as supportive Anns deeply involved in the club projects. The club boasts of 30 lady rotarians and is always on the lookout to engage young and energetic individuals. The strong network of Anns form the backbone of the much acclaimed PHCC Cricket Carnival, an RCME event engaging the whole District No.3232.

Our newsletter, ‘Eastern Bridge’, has been a consistent offering since we launched it. Chronicling the activities for the month, it is an excellent source of archival information on club projects. Our club has embraced the digital world in sharing information and our website http://rcme.org is interesting to visit and has wealth of information designed with novel ideas to match the current trend.

The club has always played a responsible role in the Rotary District and spearheaded many projects benefiting the community and creating a pleasurable experience for its members. It has frequently won critical acclaim from the District and the beneficiaries, for its various programmes and the useful role that it has been playing in the community as well.

The club has been in the thick of action conducting programmes and running projects that are pertinent and of value to society. With hallmark projects such as The Winners Bakery, Annai Satyanagar-A slum No More, The Community College at Beemenapet, The vocational Excellence Center at Thoraipakkam, The Penn Nalam Cancer Screening Bus. RCME has earned a name of consistency and sustainability.

The RCC at Nandiambakkam, the Rotaract Club of Bharathi Women’s College, IIT Chennai and the Interact Clubs at National Public School, Kesari Higher Secondary School, Little Flower Matriculation School are some of the club’s pride.

Health has been an important avenue of service, with many noteworthy projects in collaboration with prominent Health Care centers. Starting with The Rheumatic Heart Ailment Programme, RCME has been a frontrunner in providing infrastructure and equipment for the care and medical needs of society. The club members and families are active every year at Rotary Pulse-Polio immunisation centres.

RCME raises the bar each Rotary year, to bring more oriented and productive projects in its fold, with participation from clubs across different continents as well as the active participation of Rotary International, thereby giving back to society and enriching the lives of humanity near and far.

Letter from the President

Rtn. T.V. Rama Kumar
(2022 – 23)

Greetings and best wishes to my RCME family members,

It gives me immense pleasure, responsibility and honour to be the 38th president of Rotary Club of Madras East.

RCME is one club built on core values and principles laid down by our founding fathers, Past Presidents, our members and their families. I have learnt a lot from Rotary in general and RCME in particular which has helped me in my personal life as well as in business.

We are well aware that Rotary is a member organisation and its members come first and foremost. That being etched in our mind, I along with my team aspire to work towards engaging each and every member and achieve greater member satisfaction.

I take the liberty to convey on behalf of every member that all of us ardently wish to give back to society and work towards inculcating positive change in society. To this end, I will work hard to ensure that we engage ourselves in the plethora of meaningful projects in various avenues, we have curated this year. Our fund-raising chairman and TRF Chairman will get in touch with you for your support.

This particular year is also going to be historical given that the Rotary International is being led by, the most accomplished Rtn. Jennifer E Jones, who has come forward with a fitting theme- Imagine Rotary. With that sentiment – we will imagine change in society, change within the organisation and positively imagine changes within each and every one of us.

In addition to the above, our District Governor Rtn. Dr Nanda Kumar has set very ambitious plans for the year and is being supported by a vibrant and dedicated team of district officials. All in all, it promises to be an action filled year with several innovative projects and activities.

On our exquisite board this year, we have an envious amalgamation of young and experienced team of directors who carry within them enthusiasm, knowledge and a sense of responsibility. I have no doubts that we will imagine and implement every single project with utmost care and prudence. Together, I have no doubts that we will achieve all that we have set our sight on. Imagining a better future together,

Rtn. T.V. Rama Kumar
President – 2022-23
