The Rotary principles and values of this club are enviably high. The founding fathers gave it the character it retains even today; at the same time strongly believing in evolving with passing time, 39 years down the road, you see a vibrant and happening club, young at heart and contemporary in thought.
The club believes in active engagement of women in Rotary, not only as Rotarians but as supportive Anns deeply involved in the club projects. The club boasts of 30 lady rotarians and is always on the lookout to engage young and energetic individuals. The strong network of Anns form the backbone of the much acclaimed PHCC Cricket Carnival, an RCME event engaging the whole District No.3234.
Our newsletter, ‘Eastern Bridge’, has been a consistent offering since we launched it. Chronicling the activities for the month, it is an excellent source of archival information on club projects. Our club has embraced the digital world in sharing information and our website http://rcme.org is interesting to visit and has wealth of information designed with novel ideas to match the current trend.
The club has always played a responsible role in the Rotary District and spearheaded many projects benefiting the community and creating a pleasurable experience for its members. It has frequently won critical acclaim from the District and the beneficiaries, for its various programmes and the useful role that it has been playing in the community as well.
The club has been in the thick of action conducting programmes and running projects that are pertinent and of value to society. With hallmark projects such as The Winners Bakery, Annai Satyanagar-A slum No More, The Community College at Beemenapet, The Penn Nalam Cancer Screening Bus. RCME has earned a name of consistency and sustainability.
The Rotaract Club of Stella Maris College, Chennai and the Interact Clubs at National Public School, Little Flower Matriculation School, Dr Nalli Kuppuswami Vivekananda Vidyalaya Junior College, PS Matriculation School, GTA Vidhya Mandir, Sindhi Model Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Greater Chennai Corporation Community College are some of the club’s pride.
Health has been an important avenue of service, with many noteworthy projects in collaboration with prominent Health Care centers. Starting with The Rheumatic Heart Ailment Programme, RCME has been a frontrunner in providing infrastructure and equipment for the care and medical needs of society. The club members and families are active every year at Rotary Pulse-Polio immunisation centres.
RCME raises the bar each Rotary year, to bring more oriented and productive projects in its fold, with participation from clubs across different continents as well as the active participation of Rotary International, thereby giving back to society and enriching the lives of humanity near and far.
